Crossflow is developed to treat (industrial) wastewater streams high in Mixed Liquid Suspended Solids at high fluxes. It is also suitable for oil & gas and mining wastewater treatment.
In a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), the advantages of biological treatment and membrane filtration are combined. Crossflow MBR applies pressurized inside-out UF membranes which are placed outside the bioreactor for a clean process that is easy to operate and maintain.
Crossflow operation prevents membrane fouling, enabling Crossflow MBR to deal with even higher MLSS than our Airlift technology.
Recirculation ensures that the recycling water/sludge helps to keep the membranes clean, while simultaneously separating clean water from the feed.
Mainly used for industrial wastewater streams with oil content and produced water applications. The X-Flow Compact 75G module was especially developed for such demanding tasks, and applies X-Flow Helix technology to counter fouling and enhance flux rates. The high-strength GRP membrane housings have flange connections on both the feed and permeate side, and high chemical resistance.
In produced water applications, the produced water can be reused as injection water in just three steps (UF membranes, activated carbon, RO).
In contrast to the complex conventional options, this simplified process provides a smaller footprint, less weight, a lower OPEX and a higher permeate quality.

Developed for (industrial) wastewater applications, the Crossflow technology is at its best with difficult to treat wastewater. Crossflow needs more energy (1,5-4 kWh/m³) than our Airlift technology (<0,25 kWh/m3), but offers the advantages of a continuous process and a minimal footprint. Furthermore, it can deal with very high MLSS (12-30+ g/l) and work with a significantly higher flux (80-200 l/m2h).In specific circumstances, with a COD > 7,000 ppm, the business case for anaerobic MBR may be more favorable, as it also produces renewable energy (biogas).
